SANTO ROSARIO PARISH is located in Dampalit, Malabon City, where it is said that the place was named after the numerous species of Dampalit plants that thrive on the area. While others say that Dampalit was from the Tagalog words “daang – paliit”, which literally means a narrow road, such discussion only gives color to the background of the people from the continuously – rising community.

The church of the Santo Rosario Parish was created using Baroque architecture, under the supervision of the Augustinian priests. It was built inside a 1, 226 meter lot, donated by Kapitana Elena Naval Paez. Back then, it was a chapel belonging to the Immaculate Conception Parish.

As time passed by, the parish underwent several cultural changes, one of which is the Archdiocesan Decree of February 6, 1985, that assigns the second Sunday of October as their rightful feast. Before, the parish celebrates their fiesta on the New Year, which is the solemnity of Mary as mother of God, which contradicts the title of their patronage to Mary, Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary. The Archdiocese of Manila reminded that, although the parish may commemorate Mary’s feast on January 1, it is only proper that they acknowledge the feast on every second Sunday of October.

Although tradition was slightly shattered, these innovations did not hamper the unfathomable devotion of the people of Dampalit to the Virgin Mary, and their faith to the Gospel and to the one God. Instead, they further intensified their activities for the improvement not only of the Santo Rosario Parish, but of the whole physical, mental, and economical status of the communities.

The Holy Rosary

THE WORD ROSARY LITERALY MEANS “CROWN OF ROSES”, a crown worthy for the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our Lady has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because it simply tells the awesome story of our salvation. With the Rosary in fact we meditate the mysteries of joy, of sorrow and the glory of Jesus and Mary. A simple prayer, a prayer we can all say together with the Mother of God. Therefore it becomes ever more useful, because what Mary asks she always receives, Jesus can never say no to whatever His Mother asks for. In every apparition, the heavenly Mother has invited us to say the Rosary as a powerful weapon against evil, to bring us to true peace. With your prayer made together with the heavenly Mother, you can obtain the great gift of bringing about a change of hearts and conversion. Each day, through prayer you can drive away from yourselves and from your homeland many dangers and many evils.

It can seem a repetitive prayer but instead it is like two sweethearts who many times say one another the words: “I love you”. The Blessed Holy Father John Paul II on October 16th, 2002 with the Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae on the Most Holy Rosary has added 5 new mysteries of the Rosary: The Mysteries of the Light.
